Biography 

Rita Camacho Lomeli (Mexico) 

Rita Camacho Lomeli is a Mexican educator, curator, and visual artist based in Toronto. Rita holds a bachelor of arts in curatorial and multimedia arts from the University of Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires City. Throughout the years she has continued to inform her practice with additional academic studies in managing an art gallery, queer art, and queer curating at the Node Centre in Berlin, and public and private funding of international non-profit contemporary art platforms at the continuing education program at Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland. She is a member of Red Tree Artist Collective, a cross-cultural collaborative platform dedicated to programming projects in Toronto, Cuba, and Mexico. Since 2005 she has worked at Civic Theater Toronto and has been the appointed coordinator and curator for Colectivo Toronto. In 2016, Rita was the recipient of the Animating Historic Sites grant by the Toronto Arts Council. 

Rita Camacho Lomeli’s studio work is with film, installation, and photography. Her work is made in public spaces, reflecting on the dynamic encounter between the artworks and the neighbourhood. Her work has been part of the collective exhibitions Regina-Style Pizza: A Members Show + Sale (2021) at the Neutral Ground Artist Run Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, Art Match Pop-up Shop for the Pan American Games (2015) at Centre 3 in Hamilton, and New Toronto Works (2013), curated by Francisco-Fernando Granados and Cressida Kocienski, Pleasure Dome, Toronto.
