Latin American Speaker Series Presents: Dora Longo Bahia

Dora Longo Bahia creates an autobiographical narrative between fiction and reality in a videoconference with images and sounds appropriated from her work from different media, juxtaposed to a collage of literary texts. Narrated in Portuguese with English subtitles, the video is an aesthetic critique of capitalism and address’s themes that permeate the artists entire production, such as gender violence, abuse of state power, and environmental destruction.


Dora Longo Bahia is a multimedia artist, born in São Paulo, Brazil. She has worked with painting, photography, video, sound, set design, installation, and performance art. In 2010, she completed her PhD on Visual Arts at Escola de Comunicações e Artes – Universidade de São Paulo [ECA-USP], where she currently teaches. In 2016, she completed her postdoctoral studies in Philosophy, that resulted in her first feature film, The Dora Case. Dora Longo Bahia has exhibited her work at: Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Paris, France (2022); Língua Solta, Museu da Língua Portuguesa, São Paulo, Brasil (2021); We Never Sleep, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Germany (2020); Bienal Sur, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2019); 9th Busan Biennale: Divided We Stand, Busan, South Korea (2018); 35o Panorama da Arte Brasileira – Brasil por multiplicidade, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, Brasil (2017); Landscapes After Ruskin: Redefining the Sublime, Hall Art Foundation, Reading, U.S.A.
