Biography 

Frances Cordero de Bolaños (El Salvador) 

Frances Cordero de Bolaños is a Salvadorian visual artist based in Oakville, Ontario. Frances holds a bachelor of arts in art and art history with honours from the University of Toronto Mississauga (2016). She also has a diploma in art and art history from Sheridan College (2016), a fine art certificate from the same college (2007), a settlement worker certificate from George Brown College (1991), and a community worker diploma from George Brown College (1989). She has worked for over 20 years as a senior program advisor for the Department of Canadian Heritage in Toronto. Frances has been the recipient of multiple awards and grants including the recognition of outstanding contributions to the arts community by the University of Toronto Shelley Peterson Student Art Exhibition Award (2015) and the Excellence in Sculpture 3 by the Sculpture and Supply Canada Award (2014) from Sheridan College of Technology and Advanced Learning and the University of Toronto Mississauga. 

Frances Cordero de Bolaños’s studio work uses different mediums including sculpture, photography, painting, and drawing to explore different forms of abstractions of the human body and land concerning human struggles. Her work has been part of collective exhibitions including Carrying Wood, curated by Patrick DeCoste, at John B. Aird Gallery, Toronto, The Views Are Different Here: Examining Toronto’s Identity (2018), curated by Amanda McNeil and Nikita Lorenzo, at the John B. Aird Gallery in Toronto, The Recipe: Making Latin American Art in Canada (2018), curated by Tamara Toledo, at Sur Gallery in Toronto, and the annual members show at Visual Art Mississauga (2017) in Mississauga, Ontario.
