Biography  

Victor Arroyo (1977, Mexico) 

Victor Arroyo is a Mexican experimental filmmaker and visual artist based in Montreal, Quebec. Victor holds a diploma in Técnicas de Investigación en Cultura, Sociedad y Comunicación (1999-2000) from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. In addition, he completed at Concordia University in Montreal, a graduate certificate in Design Art Practices (2012- 2013), a bachelor in fine art in Film Studies (2008- 2011), a master in fine arts in Film Production (2013- 2016) and a Ph.D. in Humanities (2016- 2023). Victor's time-based media expertise was included in collaborative projects for the Artic Art Summit in 2019 and for the In-Focus program for graduate student researchers through the lens of filmmakers from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University (2014). 

Victor Arroyo's studio work is with time base media, screenwriting and directing, informed by ethnographic research and geopolitical documentation to fuse them through video and film. His work has been showcased in the solo exhibition Crisis (2014), curated by Tina Carlisi, at the MFA Gallery at Concordia University, Montreal. His video has been part of collective screening at the Indigenous Film Festival (2023), at the University of California San Diego in California and at the International Festival of Film on Art (2019) in Montreal. Victor's work has been included in the collective exhibitions Bienal Sur (2021), at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero in Argentina, Late Fall Exhibition (2021), at the FOFA Gallery at Concordia University, Montreal and Ignition 15 (2019), curated by Nicole Burisch and Michèle Thériault, at the Galerie Leonard & Bina Ellen in University of Concordia, Montreal.
