Biography  

Claudia Bernal (Colombian-Canadian) 

Claudia Bernal is a Colombian-Canadian visual artist and researcher based in Montreal. She has a diploma in philology and languages from the National University of Colombia (1989). After she migrated to Montreal in 1991, Claudia continued her academic studies and completed a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the University of Québec in Montréal (1999), a master’s degree in performing arts (2015) from the University of Québec in Montréal, and a PhD in visual art practice and studies from the same university (2021). Bernal has been the recipient of many awards and grants, and in 2022 received the Salarial Subvention from the Centre de Recherche CELAT from the University of Quebec in Montreal. 

Bernal’s studio work is instructed by an interdisciplinary practice built from the intersection of visual arts, performing art, and literature, all combined to create an active dialogue through installation, performance, and time media. Claudia’s work has been showcased in the solo exhibition Les Somnabules (2022), La Chapelle des Cuthbert, Berthierville, Québec, and she was part of the collective exhibition MAADI (2022), which was curated by Stanley Fevrier at the Musee des Beaux Art de Montréal.
