Biography 

Éric Carlos Bertrand (born 1969, Mexico) 

Éric Carlos Bertrand is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist, educator, and writer based between Québec and Mexico City. Éric completed a master of fine arts from Universidad Autonoma de Mexico in 1999, and in the same year also received a master of fine arts in sculpture from the Academia San Carlos, a division of the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico. He is a PhD candidate in art and theory at the Université du Québec à Montréal. In 2016 Bertrand founded the Cache Gallery in Montreal, a space dedicated to showcasing and marketing the work of Montréal painters. He has been the recipient of multiple grants and awards including the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Éric Bertrand’s studio work is based on painting and sculptures; with the two mediums he explores texture and colour to represent land and nature. Eric has showcased in the solo exhibition Mille une nuits - Mille et une pictures (2021-2022) at the Instituto Cultural de Mexico Espacio en Montréal. His work has been included in collective exhibitions including the 2005 Québec City Biennale as part of the collective We Are Not Speedy Gonzalez.
