Biography 

Ernesto Cabral de Luna (b. 1996, Cholula, Mexico)

Ernesto Cabral de Luna is a Mexican lens-based artist based in Toronto. He holds a BFA in Photography from OCAD University (2024). His work has been exhibited in several gallery spaces in Toronto, such as Patel Brown, Ignite Gallery, Ada Slaight, Xpace Cultural Center, and Abbozzo Gallery. Ernesto has also ministered workshops on lens-based media and developed commissioned murals, posters and products by companies such as Coors Light, Walmart Canada and the Toronto Raptors. In 2021, Ernesto was awarded the Wendy Coburn Scholarship for Art & Social Change (OCAD University), and in 2024, he was the recipient of the Artist Direct Grant from Partners in Art, the Barbara Astman Photography Award, and Gallery 44's Residency Award.

Ernesto's practice makes use of analog and digital photography techniques, creating works that blur the lines between photography, sculpture and installation. By printing his images on surfaces such as metal, glass, or copper, Ernesto's work probes into the altering of perceptions of individual and collective memories. His images, and their materialities, also refer to habitual aspects of Mexican visual culture.
