Biography 

Eli Carmona (born 1989, El Salvador) 

Eli Carmona is a Salvadorian visual artist based in Toronto and specializing in photography and graphic design. In 2010 they received a bachelor of arts in graphic design from the Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado in El Salvador. In 2015 Eli completed the post-graduate program in interactive media management at George Brown College, Toronto. Eli has occupied different roles in the 2SLGBTQ+ Torontonian community, working on different projects such as Trans Work Force (2017-2019), as art director. Later they joined The 519 as a community coordinator (2018). They are a member of the board for the Poder Afro y Abya Yala Fuerza Feminista, an organization based in Toronto. 

Eli Carmona’s studio work consists of photography, design, and video to explore immigration as a trans person and themselves and their relationship and affection with the land. They have been part of solo exhibitions including El Mercado (2011) at Restaurante Patachiu in Santa Tecla, El Salvador. In addition, they have been part of group exhibitions including Exposing Liminalities (2018) at the Critical Distance Centre for Curators in Toronto, outreach installation (2019) at The 519 in Toronto, and Subject to Change (2019) as part of Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival at Exhibition Arts in Etobicoke.
