Biography 

Francisco-Fernando Granados (Guatemala) 

Francisco-Fernando Granados is a Guatemalan multidisciplinary artist, writer, curator, and educator based in Toronto. Francisco holds a fine arts diploma (2007) from Langara College in Vancouver. He also completed a bachelor of fine arts in 2010 from Emily Carr University in Vancouver. After moving to Toronto, Francisco finished a master’s degree in visual studies (2012) at the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Governor General’s Silver Medal for academic achievement. In 2018 he was a mentee in the Liz Krehm Mentorship in Creative Writing at Toronto Metropolitan University. In 2022 Francisco began a PhD in media and design innovation at Toronto Metropolitan University. He has curated exhibitions and cultural programming including the 7a*11d International Performance Art Festival (collective) in Toronto and the panel discussion on Vivian Suter’s exhibition La Canícula (2018) at The Power Plant in Toronto, and has also coordinated other events for the 221A artist-run centre in Vancouver and the Blackwood Gallery at the University of Toronto Mississauga. 

Francisco-Fernando’s studio work begins with establishing a theoretical framework to later reflect through drawing, performance, and installation within the research subjects of queerness and the experience of place, land, and belonging. Fernando has participated in the solo exhibitions who claims abstraction? (2023), curated by Kimberly Phillips and Kristy Trinier, at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, letters (2022) at the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, Ontario, and co-respond-dance-version II (2020) at the Centre des arts actuels Skol in Montreal. Fernando has also been part of the collective exhibitions Tattarrattat (2022) at the Hunt Gallery in Toronto, PERF (Ré)agir / (Re)act (2021) at the AXENÉO7 in Gatineau, Quebec, and Latidoamérica Extendida: Europa (2020) at the 12-14 Contemporary in Vienna, Austria.
