Biography  

Gustavo Jabbaz (Latin America) 

Gustavo Jabbaz is a Latin American visual artist based in Toronto. Gustavo’s interest in photography and design began in 1998 when he acquired his first digital camera. Since then, he has worked as an independent photographer and graphic designer. Gustavo holds a certificate in social media marketing from the Hootsuite training and education platform. An emerging artist, Gustavo is actively involved in the Toronto art community: he is the board secretary of Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, where he also serves on the membership and facilities committee. 

Gustavo Jabbaz’s studio work is photography based. He is interested in capturing street images where subjects are the casualties of the city, and from those images he creates digital collages, placing different frames into one composition. Gustavo has showcased in solo exhibitions including the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival (2022) at Alleyway Gallery in Toronto (outdoor exhibition), Summer at the Market 2021 at Public Alley Gallery in Toronto (outdoor exhibition), and at the Members’ Gallery at Gallery 44 in Toronto. In 2022 he participated in various group exhibitions including Sightings, curated by Holly Chang, and Why Do You Create? as part of the Visual Arts Mississauga juried online exhibition. In addition, he has showcased in the 2021 Scotiabank Contact Photography Exhibition at the Chang School Photography Exhibition and in the 2020 Scotiabank Contact Photography Exhibition at Artscape Youngplace.
