Biography 

Amelia Jiménez (Chile - died 2016 Toronto) 

Amelia Jiménez was a Chilean interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Amelia studied at the Catholic University of Chile specializing in printmaking (1976), and after immigrating to Canada, Amelia completed her studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design. She also worked and was an apprentice at the Camnitzer Studio in Italy (1982). 

Amelia’s work was based on photography and textile to reflect on belonging and memory. Her multidisciplinary works were exhibited internationally in solo exhibitions in Chile, Canada, Germany, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Serbia, and Cuba. Her work was also part of the collective exhibition Bringin’ (2009) at A Space Gallery in Toronto. She also curated exhibitions of Latin American artists for Harbourfront Centre and the Latino Cultural Association, at Gallery 1313 and the Propeller Centre for the Arts.
