Biography

Rosalina Libertad Cerritos (Mexico)

Rosalina Libertad Cerritos Cuellar is a Mexican visual artist with cultural inheritance from El Salvador based in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Rosalina holds a Film Production degree from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema (Montréal), where she graduated with a focus on Experimental Cinema. She also has a Digital Visual Effects Diploma from Capilano University (North Vancouver) and a Master of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver, Canada). Rosalina’s interdisciplinary artworks have been featured in several collective exhibitions and screenings, and she has been a part of several artistic initiatives throughout British Columbia and Ontario.

Rosalina’s practice explores her personal and collective experiences as she navigates her Salvadoran roots, her upbringing in Mexico, and her relocation to Canada. Her digital artworks and video installations, which are abstract, experimental, multidimensional and multi-sensorial, reflect themes such as identity, culture, language, place, memory, and intergenerational experiences of trauma, nostalgia, celebration and hope. Her collective exhibitions include Diaspora Dialogues: Archiving the Familiar (Sur Gallery, Toronto, 2023); Site Unseen (Pix Film Collective, Toronto, 2023); For a Spell (VIVO Media Arts Centre, Vancouver, 2022) and Moving Art (Eastside Culture Crawl, Vancouver, 2022).
