Biography
Pilar Macías (Mexico)
Pilar Macías is a Mexican visual artist based in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Québec. Pilar holds a bachelor of graphic communication (1986) and a master’s degree in visual arts (1998) both completed at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, Mexico City. After immigrating to Canada in 2001 she continued her studies in the artists’ book microprogram at University Laval, Québec, and in 2004 she completed a master’s degree in visual arts from the same university. In 2021 Pilar was the finalist for the Charles Biddle Award, Montréal.
Pilar Macías’s studio work is through photographs. Her compositions vary from digital to collage to reflect on the female body and womanhood. Pilar’s work has been showcased in the solo exhibitions Souhaits (2016) at Voix Visuelle, in Ottawa, and Forme, Difforme (1998) at the Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, in Sudbury, Ontario. Her photographs have been included in the collective exhibition Embracing the Archive (2011) at the Centre des Art actuels Skol, in Québec.
