Biography 

José Mansilla-Miranda (Puerto Montt, Chile)

José Mansilla-Miranda is a Chilean visual artist based in Ottawa. José studied theology at Holy Family Seminary in Santiago, Chile. After immigrating to Canada he studied engineering design at Red River College in Winnipeg (1983). José holds a diploma in fine arts from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg (1988), and a diploma in graphic design from Algonquin College, Ottawa (1991). In 2015 he completed a master’s degree in fine arts at the University of Ottawa. 

José Mansilla-Miranda’s studio work is a multidisciplinary practice through painting, performance, and installation to engage subjects such as body politics, religion, and its different relationships within immigration and personal experiences. José has showcased in the collective exhibitions Peinture Fraîche et Nouvelle Construction catalog (2014) at Art Mur, Quebec, at the Canada Council Art Bank in Ottawa (2014), and Lo permanente y el cambio (2009), curated by Mario Fonseca, at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Santiago, in Chile.
