Biography
Guadalupe Martínez (born 1980, Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Guadalupe Martínez is an Argentinian interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Vancouver. Guadalupe holds a bachelor of fine arts (2008) from Universidad Nacional de Argentina in Buenos Aires, and a master in fine arts (2014) from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. She has been the recipient of grants including BC Arts Council project assistance (2019, 2020), BC Arts Council early career development (2016, 2017), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council award (2013). She has participated in residencies intertwined with artistic practice and pedagogy including The Foreshore (2017), where she was guest artist in residence in Vancouver, Workshop: The Abravomich Method (2015) at the Performance Art Biennale in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Seminar: Performance Pedagogy, Embodiment, and Text (2015) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Guadalupe Martínez’s studio work is focused on performance and installations developed from her research and collaborative efforts about the body and land as main subjects. Guadalupe has participated in the solo exhibitions Research/Resurgence (2019) in collaboration with Olivia Whetung, and CUERPO (2019) both projects were presented at Or Gallery in Vancouver. Her work has been part of the collective exhibitions Spill: Response (2019), curated by Lorna Brown at Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in Vancouver, Love, Loss, and Land (2022), curated by Eli Hirtle and Toby Lawrence, at Open Space in Victoria, BC, and Performance action at VIVA! Art Action (2019), in Montreal, Quebec, and zero, ground (2018) at Griffin Art Projects in North Vancouver.
