Biography

Isabel M. Martínez

Isabel M. Martínez is a Latin American visual artist based in Toronto. Isabel holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts (2000) from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago and a master’s degree in fine arts (2003) from the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. Her artwork is part of the photographs collection of the Image Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Isabel M. Martínez’s studio work is with photographs. Her practice is informed in part by science, philosophy, and fiction and pushing the inherent capabilities of the photographic medium to reflect on time and space. Her work has been showcased in the solo exhibitions The Distance of an Echo (2021) as part of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and From Walking So Much in Circles, I will End Up Making a Sphere (2020), both at the Angell Gallery in Toronto. Isabel’s work has also been part of the collective exhibitions Silver Editions (2021) at Gallery TPW in Toronto, Art TO 2020 (2020), and Dark Does It Get When the Lights Go Out (2020) at the Angell Gallery in Toronto.
