Biography
Alejandra Morales (born 1993, Monterrey, Mexico)
Alejandra Morales is a Mexican visual artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In 2016 she completed a bachelor in art from McGill University in Montreal and then continued studying Art and Research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Alejandra is a candidate for a master's in fine art in the Visual Art Program at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
Alejandra Morales's studio work is focused on painting, inspired by distorting different elements of nature, wilderness, and mundane materials to reflect on our relationship with the traditional views of femininity. Alejandra's work has been showcased in the solo exhibitions Impaciencia Moderna (2022) at the Unidad Cultural de Arquitectura of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico and El huitlacoche y otras pasiones (2018) at the EINA Espai Barra de Ferro in Barcelona, Spain. Her work has been included in the collective exhibitions Things that do not come by the road: UBC Master of Fine Arts Graduate Exhibition 2023, at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, the MFA Visual Art Exhibition: A hole in the world makes two (2022) at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and the CLIO Art Fair (2019) in New York City.
