Biography 

Lido Pimienta (born 1986, Barranquilla, Colombia) 

Lido Pimienta is an Indigenous Colombian-Canadian songwriter, musician, and interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto and London, Ontario. Lido holds a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Lido is also a songwriter in Spanish. Her music is instructed by cumbia, afro-beats, throat singing, and electronic fusion to expand traditional boundaries by mixing them. In 2010 she released her first album, titled Color LP, after which she toured Canada, the United States, and Latin America. Her second album, La Papessa, was released in 2016 and won the Polaris Music Prize the next year, giving her international recognition. In 2018 she released her third album, Miss Colombia, inspired from a cynical perspective by what she calls a love letter to Colombia. That album was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020 in the categories of Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album and Best Alternative Music Album. 

Lido’s multidisciplinary studio work is focused on drawing, performance, and installation to explore issues about land, politics, gender, motherhood, and race. Lido’s music is available on various platforms such as NPR, Bandcamp, and ANTI. Her visual work has been showcased in the solo exhibition Hanging by the Threads (2021) at Patel Brown in Toronto. She has also been part of collective exhibitions including Colour of Women (2022) at Sur Gallery curated by Tamara Toledo, and Feministry is Here (2017) at the Mercer Union in Toronto.
