Florencia Sosa Rey (Canada)
Florencia Sosa Rey is an Argentinian-Canadian visual and multidisciplinary artist based in Tiohtiá:ke/Mooniyand/Montréal, Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Her Professional career includes participation in Residency Projects like the ArtLab Artist Residency at the Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec (2024/25), the Quartier Éphémère Artist Residency at the Gare Matapédia - Darling Foundry in Matapedia, Quebec (2023), the Raíces Artist Residency at the Centro Cultural Policarpo in Aconquija, Argentina (2022) and the Saga Art Residency in Eyrarbakki, Iceland (2018). Florencia has also participated in presentations like <dis> representation: an experiment and workshop addressing pluralism in the arts, organized by Veronica Mockler and José Cortés at the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance UQAM in Montreal, Canada (2024), In the shadow of forward motion: an interdisciplinary conversation on performance, matter, and movement, curated by Didier Morelli at the MAI- Montréal Arts interculturel in Montreal, Canada (2024) and has been the awardee of the Canada Council for the Arts, Research and Creation Grant in 2022.
In her artistic practice, Florencia Sosa Rey investigates the conceptual, relational, and meditative potential of everyday objects through drawings, performances, videos, and textiles exploring themes of residual memory and emotional traces left by people and experiences. Florencia’s work has been showcased at the solo exhibition In Search of Breathful Intimacies, curated by Ariane De Blois at the Plein Sud Centre d’exposition at Longueuil, Quebec (2023) and has been part of collective exhibitions such as Fil Flux Figments, created in collaboration with Artch at the Livart Centre d'art in Montréal (2024) and Writing With the Body, curated by Marcela Borquez, Renata Cervetto and Carla Rangel at the SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art in Montreal, Canada (2024), among others.
