Biography 

José Luis Torres (Argentina) 

José Luis Torres is an Argentinian sculptor and multidisciplinary artist based in Québec. José holds a bachelor of fine arts from the Roberto Viola School of Fine Arts in Cordoba, Argentina. He also studied landscape architecture at the National University of Architecture in Cordoba, Argentina, and holds a master of fine arts from the Figueroa Alcorta of Fine Arts in Cordoba. José has received multiple grants and awards including 2014 and 2016 project grants for visual artists from the Société de développment des entreprises culturelles in Québec (SODEC) and project grants for visual artists from the Conseil des Arts et des lettres du Québec (2010, 2013, 2015, 2016). He has participated in multiple artist residencies in Canada and Latin America, including at the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, Alberta (2018), Sturts Gallery and Faucet Media Arts Centre in Sackville New Brunswick (2016), and Hemisferios Acciones Nómades at the Eduardo Minnicelli Museum in Rios Gallegos Argentina (2015). 

José Luis Torres’s studio work combines sculpture and landscape architecture to create and recontextualize spaces for visitors. José has showcased in the solo exhibitions Distortions (2019) at Centre d’exposition Raymond-Lasnier, Trois-Rivières, Québec, The Everyday Future (2018), curated by Josephine Mills, at the Hess Gallery University of Lethbridge, Alberta, and D’entrée de jeu (2017) at Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec MNBAQ in Québec. His work has also been part of the collective exhibitions Urban Green: Artscarp (2017), curated by Sally Freser, at Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton, Ontario, and Yonder (2016), curated by Mona Filip, at the Koffler Gallery, Toronto.
