Biography  

Sarabeth Triviño (Chile)

Sarabeth Triviño is a Chilean textile artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. She holds a BFA in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) (2017). Triviño has actively participated in numerous exhibitions, arts residencies, workshops and collectives across Canada and internationally. She is a member of the Québec-based collective Colectiva Crear Poder Popular and the Conseil des métiers d’arts du Québec. 

Sarabeth Triviño's artistic practice focuses on the intersection of traditional textile techniques such as crochet, macramé, knitting, and embroidery with contemporary art, feminism, and sociopolitical issues across the Americas. Her work also incorporates themes of cultural heritage, migration, and environmental consciousness. Solo exhibitions include Mapu: Sacred Land (OBORO, Montréal, 2022) and Reminiscence, trace et mémoire (Galerie Jean-Letarte, Boucherville, QC, 2021). Her work has been part of the collective exhibitions Rooted Knots/Blended Threads, curated by Tamara Toledo (Sur Gallery, Toronto, 2024);  A.Llegades, curated by María Andreína Escalona De Abreu (FOFA Gallery, Montréal, 2023); Native Immigrant (ATSA, Montréal, QC, 2023); Arteria, curated by Mariza Rosales Argonza (Maison culturelle et communautaire de Montréal-Nord, Montréal, 2023); Art Souterrain (Montréal, 2022); World of Threads Festival (Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, Oakville, ON, 2018); and Fresh Paint / New Construction, Art Mûr, Montréal, 2017.
