Maria Teresa Vicencio (Chile)
Maria Teresa Vicencio is a Chilean-Canadian visual artist and printmaker based in London, Ontario, Canada. She holds a Fine Arts and Ceramics degree from the Wandsworth College in London, England, and studied Oriental brush painting (sumi-é) at the Ottawa School of Art. Her professional experience includes working with the Advanced Ceramics Programme at Capilano University and the Malaspina Printmakers Society in Vancouver.
Maria Teresa Vicencio’s artistic practice translates visual and intellectual experiences into monoprints, a medium chosen for its immediacy and spontaneity. She finds inspiration from urban landscapes and architectural forms to build layered compositions that evoke memory through a contemplative engagement with form and color. Maria Teresa Vicencio’s work has been showcased in group exhibitions such as In View of the Artist Annual Juried Exhibition (St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre, St. Thomas, ON, 2023); Off Your Wall (Groove Gallery, Sarnia, ON, 2023); and Intuition on Paper (Spencer Gallery, University of Western Ontario, London, ON, 2019). Her trajectory goes back to exhibitions such as Art in the Garden Tour (organized by North Vancouver Community Arts Council at the Sharon Perkins Garden in North Vancouver, BC, 2000), and Abstractions and Forms (Silk Purse Gallery, West Vancouver, BC, 1998).
