José Andrés Mora (Venezuela)
José Andrés Mora is a Venezuelan interdisciplinary media artist based in Toronto. José holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts in interdisciplinary art from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. In 2011 he received a studio art diploma from Capilano University in North Vancouver, and later completed a master’s degree in fine arts in studio art from the Unviersity of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. José has been the recipient of multiple awards including the Exhibition Assistance grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2022, the Ontario Graduate Studies Scholarship from the University of Guelph in 2019, and the Starfish Properties Student Art Award from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2012. José has worked as a mentor for the program Creating Opportunities for Racial Equity at Guelph University, and has also been the instructor for several workshops including Video Projection-Mapping at Trinity Square Video in Toronto (2021) and Introduction to Arduino at the Centre for Art Tapes in Halifax (2013).
José André’s studio work is mixed mediums through the use of prints, drawings, and a variation of time-based media display, accompanied by English written text to reflect on the relationships with places, memories, and politics. José has showcased in the solo exhibitions The Morning in Reverse at Artspace PTBO in Peterborough, Ontario (2022) and Scanner at Trinity Square Video in Toronto (2020). His work has also been part of the collective exhibitions Shifting Ground at the Digital Arts Resource Centre in Ottawa (2022), Art Pop 21 as part of the Montreal International Music and Art Festival (2021), and Gut Feeling at Dalhousie Art Gallery, Dalhousie University, in 2020.
