Biography
Esteban Pérez (born 1992, Quito, Ecuador)
Esteban Pérez is an Ecuadorian visual artist based in Vancouver. Esteban holds a degree in contemporary arts completed in 2018 at the Universidad de San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador, and a master of fine arts completed in 2021 at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver. He has been the recipient of important awards including the 2020 Audian Travel Award in Vancouver and the Premio Brasil Arte Emergente 2020, an award funded by the Brazilian embassy in Quito for the promotion of emerging artists.
Esteban’s studio work combines video, photography, sculpture, and site-specific installations to explore the subject of land, nature, and belonging within our contemporary crisis. Esteban has showcased in the solo exhibitions Liquid Land (2021) at the RBC Media Gallery at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver and Transitorio (2019) at Más Arte Galería in Quito, Ecuador. His work has been part of the collective exhibitions Beyond the Horizon (2021) curated by Karl Hipol at the Gordon Smith Gallery in North Vancouver, MFA Grad Show (2021) curated by Pablo de Ocampo in the Libby Leshgold Gallery at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and Radical (Re)Worlding (2021) at the AHVA Gallery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
